Pineland was planned by Sir Ebenezer Howard and is notable for being the first town-planned suburb in South Africa. The main tributary road, in and out of the suburb, is Forest Drive. Along this road you’ll find Pinelands High School, the local source of tertiary education, and an institution that has operated since 1952.
Pinelands High has an excellent reputation for nurturing compassionate, talented pupils through their teenage years and into early adulthood. The matric class of 2013 performed admirably in the government year-end exams, with a 100% pass rate, and an 80% “Bachelors Pass.” The school comprises 960 students from grades 8-12 and prioritises students who live in the Pinelands area.
In addition, there are two malls in Pinelands: Howard Centre (named after Ebenezer Howard) and Central Square. Though these aren’t as big as malls like Century City and Cavendish Square, they offer shops, boutiques and places to sit down and eat.
In all, Pinelands is a secure area which is perfect for young families and elderly retirees alike. It offers several retirement homes for the latter, while the quaint thatched houses that populate the myriad quiet roads exude a quaintness that will make anyone feel at home. Pinelands real estate offers an idyllic retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.
